Every product recommendation on The Homely Nest goes through the same process before it earns a spot in one of our guides.
Our evaluation process
- Research first. We start by reading manufacturer specs, verified customer reviews (including the 1–3 star ones — that’s where real problems show up), and existing comparison data.
- Compare across the category. We don’t review products in isolation. Every pick is measured against at least 3–5 close competitors on price, durability, ease of use, and value for money.
- Real-world use cases. We evaluate products against the situations real households actually deal with — small kitchens, pet hair, hard water, tight storage — not just lab-perfect conditions.
- Regular re-checks. Prices, availability, and product specs change. We revisit our guides periodically to update picks that are discontinued, repriced, or outperformed by something newer.
What we score on
- Performance — does it do the job it claims to do?
- Durability — will it hold up after months of regular use?
- Value — is the price justified compared to similar options?
- Ease of use — is it something an average household can use without a manual?
What we don’t do
We don’t accept payment from brands in exchange for a positive review, and we don’t let affiliate commission rates influence which product we recommend as the best pick.
